So at the latest shaken (bi-annual inspection and registration), my local dealer told me that one of the foglights were out, and therefore would fail shaken. So, they proceeded to remove both LED bulbs (these bi-color bulbs from Valenti) plus the LED housing and left the Elgrand looking somewhat toothless.
| NO fogs! |
I finally got around to testing the foglight units, and guess what... they both worked! So likely there was some kind of connector or harness issue that caused the temporary bulb failure. Luckily the next day, Sunday was a nice warm day, so I pulled the Elgrand into the garage, onto ramps and proceeded to reinstall these units.
| All blank... |
| Rear of the foglight housing (which one is left, which is right?) |
| Quick inspection to make sure no cracks |
Just in case the connectors were the problem, some di-electric greaase spray - so I sprayed all the connectors liberally |
| Backlighting the space...this is when I figured out I also had to remove this black cover too, in order to put the fog bulbs back in. |
| I had to undo three screws and a clip to fold back the protective undercover. |
| Doesn't look like much but this is how I started |
And of course, just in case, I wanted to test the bulbs to make sure nothing was broken.
| White working... |
| And yellow too - so right side OK! |
| On left side - yellow works! |
| And white too! |
| Makings sure the fog light housings work. |
| Making sure the halo LEDs in the Nissan foglight housings (these were a dealer option) still work. |
And then I tested all three modes. Off, white and yellow.
| Showing how I ziptied all of the harness together to hopefully prevent any accidental disconnect |
Then it was a matter of replicating on the left side as well. So this went much faster as I did not have to figure out how to fold back the under cover, and there was more space on this side as the windshield washer bottle was not located there (clear space all the way up the underside of the headlights).
And so now, the Elgrand is back to its former glory...
